We are pleased to be offering in-person HDR modules as preconference workshops in association with the QPR Conference on 15-17 April 2026.

This year we invite you to register for one or two of the following modules:

  • Module 3.1: Higher Degree by Research Scholarships - Tuesday 14 April 2026 - AM
  • Module 3.2: Higher Degree by Research International Partnerships - Tuesday 14 April 2026 - PM

The purpose of this module is to provide an insight into the current and evolving practices of international research training, including an understanding of how research training informs partnerships, the required processes, activities and authorities needed to underpin these partnership agreements.

It also provides an understanding of the types of international research training partnerships, their value to the university, scholarships, demands on and needs of the sector, and evolving markets. Domestic and international requirements needed for international research training partnership models are discussed including the common reporting and tracking requirements, including quality assurance, needed for international research training partnerships and candidates undertaking them.

Key learning outcomes

By the end of this module, participants should be able to demonstrate familiarity with the following:

  • Appropriate engagement with international partners for higher degree by research training and how agreements are used to formalise these;
  • International target markets which are strategic for your organisation;
  • Partnership models, including Jointly Badged, Dual Award (includes Cotutelle), and Sandwich PhD programs, as well as models to facilitate international visiting PhD scholars; and
  • Importance of monitoring the progression of international research candidate agreements.

Who should attend

This module is suitable for senior research management professionals, academics, and Associate Deans wishing to update their knowledge in this area. It would also be suitable for junior research administrators wishing to progress their career. It is intended for those working in the Australian Higher Education sector as the regulations and opportunities detailed relate to this jurisdiction.

Research management professionals  and academics from various organisations and institutions will benefit from this module including those from:

  • Research agencies and institutes;
  • Medical research institutes;

  • Research centres;

This workshop/module is part of the Foundation Level Accreditation Program, available to participants in all regions. Additionally, each module can be pursued independently for professional development.


Presenter

Dr Anne-Marie Hede

Dr Anne‑Marie Hede has extensive senior leadership experience in higher education, including roles as Dean Graduate Research and Head of Training Quality and Integrity at Victoria University. She is the founder of High Ambitions Consulting, supporting research and research training organisations through professional development and expert advice on governance, structure and policy.

Please note

  • Preconference workshop registrations do not include a QPR Conference Registration.
  • Those attending both the morning and afternoon workshop are kindly requested to organise their own lunch via one of the local cafes in the area.

Cancellation Policy

Should your circumstances change, and you are unable to attend this workshop, you must contact ARMSAccreditation@researchmanagement.org.au by no later than 10 working days prior to the commencement of the scheduled event. ARMS will refund the full registration fee minus any administrative fees.

Should you cancel less than 10 working days prior to the commencement of this workshop, no refund will be payable but instead you may wish to send a proxy.

ARMS reserve the right to cancel, postpone or re-schedule courses and events due to minimum numbers not being reached or for other unforeseen circumstances.  In the event of a cancellation, ARMS will aim to advise all participants in writing five (5) days prior to the scheduled event and will refund the full registration fee including administrative charges within 30 days after notification.
