This year we invite you to register for one or two of the following modules:
- Module 3.1: Higher Degree by Research Scholarships - Tuesday 14 April 2026
- Module 3.2: Higher Degree by Research International Partnerships - Tuesday 14 April 2026

This module focuses on higher degree by research (HDR) scholarships and the benefits they offer to universities, research institutes and scholarship recipients. The module covers the components of HDR scholarships, how scholarships are allocated and the management of scholarship programs. Topics covered include:
- The rationale for offering scholarships programs;
- Scholarship models and funding;
- Working with international scholarship agencies;
- Processes for promoting allocating and monitoring scholarship programs; and
- Risk management and quality assurance.
Key learning outcomes
By the end of this workshop, participants should be able to demonstrate familiarity with the following:
- The role of scholarships in HDR education and university research;
- Determining a scholarship allocation model for your university;
- Working with foreign agencies, including governments, that allocate scholarships;
- Establishing industry and externally funded scholarship programs (see also the Module 3.2: Higher Degree by Research International Partnerships);
- Effective management and reporting on scholarships;
- Establishing joint scholarships with external agencies; and
- Accessing and promoting funded mobility programs.
Who should attend
This module is suitable for senior research management professionals, academics, and Associate Deans wishing to update their knowledge in this area. It is also suitable for those who are new to the research management profession, those who have specialised in one area of research management and wish to broaden their knowledge and/or those who are experienced research management professionals but wish to refresh their knowledge in a specific topic area.
Research management professionals from all organisations and institutions will benefit from this module including those from:
- Research agencies and institutes;
- Medical research institutes;
- Research and development corporations;
- Research centres;
- Government departments;
- Funding bodies;
- Industrial research and development teams;
- Service providers;
- Commercialisation bodies; and
- Consultancies.

This module is part of the Foundation Level Accreditation Program, available to participants in all regions. Additionally, each module can be pursued independently for professional development.

Dr Anne-Marie Hede

Dr Anne‑Marie Hede has extensive senior leadership experience in higher education, including roles as Dean Graduate Research and Head of Training Quality and Integrity at Victoria University. She is the founder of High Ambitions Consulting, supporting research and research training organisations through professional development and expert advice on governance, structure and policy.

Please note
- Preconference workshop registrations do not include a QPR Conference Registration.
- Those attending both the morning and afternoon workshop are kindly requested to organise their own lunch via one of the local cafes in the area.
Cancellation Policy
Should your circumstances change, and you are unable to attend this workshop, you must contact ARMSAccreditation@researchmanagement.org.au by no later than 10 working days prior to the commencement of the scheduled event. ARMS will refund the full registration fee minus any administrative fees.
Should you cancel less than 10 working days prior to the commencement of this workshop, no refund will be payable but instead you may wish to send a proxy.
ARMS reserve the right to cancel, postpone or re-schedule courses and events due to minimum numbers not being reached or for other unforeseen circumstances. In the event of a cancellation, ARMS will aim to advise all participants in writing five (5) days prior to the scheduled event and will refund the full registration fee including administrative charges within 30 days after notification.
