Dr Debbie Thackray BSc MSc PhD

I’m currently the Excellence and Impact Partner in the Research Office at Curtin Unniversity and have been a member of ARMS for many years. I have over 30 years of experience in industry and academic research, project management, collaborative facilitation, research extension, technical writing and editing, and science and engineering communication.

My research background is in agricultural biology, with expertise in forecasting and control of crop pests and diseases. I gained my BSc from Durham University, and MSc and PhD from the University of Southampton in the UK. I then worked as a private crop consultant until moving to Australia in 1993, taking up a research position in one of the first Cooperative Research Centres, the CRC for Legumes in Mediterranean Agriculture. I have since worked in research communication, development and management roles at the University of Western Australia, the WA Department of Primary Industries and Curtin University, as well as running my own technical writing consultancy while my children were young.

I have greatly benefitted from workshops, conferences, training, SIGs and the ARMS mentoring scheme over the years and am keen to give back as a member and treasurer of the WA ARMS Chapter.
