Costing and Pricing of Research

This elective is delivered over two (2) partial days:

  • Friday 25 November 2022, 11:00am - 1:30pm AEDT
  • Monday 28 November 2022, 11:00am - 1:30pm AEDT

Participants are required to attend both sessions.

An important skillset for any Researcher, Research Administrator, Research Manager, Department Finance Officer or Commercial Manager is to be able to effectively cost and price research projects. With this is in mind the ARMS Costing and Pricing training module has been developed to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of Research Project Costing and Pricing to ultimately ensure there are enough resources for a project to be successfully completed within the project scope and ensure that key Organisational and Investor requirements have been considered.

On completion of the module, the participant will have an increased understanding of:

  • How the external environment influences costing and pricing;
  • Key costing and pricing terminology;
  • The key considerations and elements of effectively costing and pricing a research project;
  • The principles and components of the full cost of research;
  • Competitive neutrality and its requirements for costing and pricing;
  • Medical Trials Costing and Pricing;
  • Costing and pricing a research project based upon specific funding rounds and funding agency requirements;
  • Key considerations when costing and pricing a research project in New Zealand, Singapore and for US Federal Government Grants;
  • Submitting a compelling funding request; and
  • Where to get assistance in their Organisation.

Who should attend?

This Master Class is suitable for Researchers, Research Administrators and Research Commercial Managers involved in the costing and pricing of Research Projects.

Whilst this Master Class specifically focuses on the University environment, there are many components which apply equally to other research institutions such as Cooperative Research Centres (CRCs), Hospitals, Research Institutes, and other Research Organisations such as CSIRO.

Pre-reading:

A link to the pre-reading material will be emailed to participants approximately four (4) weeks prior to the start of the workshops.

Assessment:

At the end of the workshop, participants will be invited to complete a non-compulsory assessment; due two (2) weeks after receiving the link from the ARMS Executive Office.

Those participants who wish to enrol in a future cohort of the Established Level Accreditation Program (ELAP) are strongly encouraged to successfully complete this assessment as this will count as credit towards a future ELAP, provided enrolment commences by the end of 2022.  

Accreditation:

The Master Class does not form part of the formal Foundation Level Accreditation Program (FLAP) and will not be considered for credit as part of the FLAP requirements. The Master Class will be considered as credit towards the ARMS Established Level Accreditation Program (ELAP).

Cost:

ARMS Members: $440 per Master Class (GST inclusive) - Price will be discounted in the Shopping Cart.
INORMS Sister Associations via the INORMS Sister Association Reciprocal Benefit Scheme (ISARBS): $440 per Master Class (GST inclusive) - Required to contact the ARMS Accreditation Program Administrator to arrange registration.
Non-Members: $540 per Master Class (GST inclusive)

CPD: Accredited members (ARMAs and ARMFs) will automatically accrue  5 CPD hours for this Master Class.

ARMS CANCELLATION POLICY

Should your circumstances change, and you are unable to attend this workshop, you must contact the arms.adminofficer@flinders.edu.au by no later than 10 working days prior to the commencement of the scheduled event. ARMS will refund the full registration fee minus any administrative fees.

Should you cancel less than 10 working days prior to the commencement of this workshop, no refund will be payable but instead you may wish to send a proxy.

ARMS reserve the right to cancel, postpone or re-schedule courses and events due to minimum numbers not being reached or for other unforeseen circumstances.  In the event of a cancellation, ARMS will aim to advise all participants in writing five (5) days prior to the scheduled event and will refund the full registration fee including administrative charges within 30 days after notification.
