Research Impact SIG & Research Information and Reporting SIG Collaborative Session: 'Supporting and capturing research impact’

12:00pm Thursday, 29 June 2023
1:00pm Thursday, 29 June 2023

The ARMS Research Impact Special Interest Group and ARMS Research Information and Reporting Special Interest Group are delighted to come together for a special collaborative session this month.

This session will be an opportunity to hear from our guest presenter and discuss current issues and opportunities related to the topic of 'Supporting and capturing research impact’.

There is a growing focus by governments in many countries on ensuring that universities are producing research that addresses societal challenges. In Australia this has been particularly noticeable in the last decade with an emphasis on the strategic relevance and ‘value for money’ of government funded research. This session will focus on the University of Melbourne’s development of a research impact definition and framework, and the set of initiatives that are being rolled out to support researchers who want their research to make a difference. It will discuss how the University has approached the task of deciding on how to capture and store evidence of various kinds of research impact.

Our guest presenter is Professor Jenny Lewis, Professor of Public Policy in the School of Social and Political Sciences at the University of Melbourne. She is also Academic Director, Scholarly and Social Research Impact for Chancellery Research and Enterprise.

The session will be facilitated by Michelle Duryea, RIR SIG Convenor from Edith Cowan University (Fellow of ARMS), Catherine McElhone, RI SIG Co-Convenor from University of Technology Sydney and Dr Faith Welch, RI SIG Co-Convenor from The University of Auckland/Waipapa Taumata Rau.
