As part of ARMS' commitment to ensuring that the content of all Foundation Level Accreditation Program (FLAP) modules (compulsory and elective) remain current, each module is scheduled to undergo a review in 2023.

The review involves content updates by an authorised Training Fellow(s) to the Body of Knowledge (BoK), the  question set for each post workshop quiz and  presenter's slides.   For all compulsory modules which are currently offered online via the Society's preferred LMS (Moodle), further changes are also required to the online content for these modules.

It is anticipated that registrations for all elective modules are scheduled to open in late April with the delivery of these modules commencing in mid May.  These modules will be delivered online via Zoom.

ESTABLISHED LEVEL ACCREDITATION PROGRAM

In 2022, the Society launched its new accreditation program, the Established Level Accreditation Program (ELAP).  The points-based program is a flexible program which allows participants to gain specialised knowledge in research management. The ELAP is designed for mid to senior-level Research Management Professionals and senior academics or professional staff who are transitioning into a senior Research Management role.

The program's compulsory Elements include a Leadership, Management and Strategic Thinking workshop, three (3) Electives and group learning activities.

Expressions of Interest

Interested participants are encouraged to contact the ARMS Accreditation Program Administrator to discuss your ELAP journey and EOIs will be open from April this year.

Electives

ARMS previously offered electives ranging from governance and business process improvement to specialised subjects such as international research funding.  We appreciate the contributions made by the presenters who engaged with attendees to provide a deeper knowledge of their chosen topic.

In order to meet the changing demands of the research management sector, ARMS has initiated a review of the current elective offerings and will release a new suite of electives later this year.  The winter/spring school format has also been removed so electives may be delivered at any time during the accreditation cycle, generally April through to November.

Leadership, Management and Strategic Thinking program

A key component of the ELAP is the leadership program. This program is also under review and expected to be deliver in November of this year.

MASTER CLASSES

This year, ARMS will continue to deliver its popular Master Classes on the Costing and Pricing of Research and the Fundamentals of Project Management. Each Master Class will be delivered over two (2) partial days as short, 2.5 to 3.5 hour virtual meetings.

Registrations will open in April 2023 with Master Classes commencing in May.

Points accrued from the attendance and successful completion of the assessment for each Master Class may be used as accreditation points towards the Established Level Accreditation Program.

An Open Call for applications to become a Training Fellow is currently available on the ARMS website.

The role of Training Fellow is a rewarding way to share best practice;

  • To hone your leadership skills;
  • To actively contribute to the upskilling of our global research management workforce.
  • It is seriously great fun, providing opportunities  to engage with like-minded Research Management Professionals from across the broad geographical remit of ARMS.
  • You may apply for CPD hours as part of the ELAP.
  • You will receive an honorarium payment to recognise the time needed to prepare and deliver a workshop and to help support your own professional development training needs

CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Continuing Professional Development is a requirement for maintaining accreditation at the Foundation (ARMF), Established (ARME) and Advanced (ARMA) levels.  Accredited members are required to accumulate a minimum of sixty (60) hours over three (3) years. The three (3) year period commences upon accreditation.

Accredited Research Mangers (Foundation) or ARM(F)s that are currently registered as a participant in the ELAP have their CPD requirement suspended until the time they successfully complete their ELAP.  Upon successful completion of the ELAP the CPD accrual period is be set back to zero (0) hours.

Accredited members may lodge CPD applications, or view their current CPD, via their CPD Diaries in their member portals.

Review of CPD

An ARMS working party meets four (4) times a year to review and approve CPD applications that are not automatically approved as being ARMS events. Meetings are scheduled this year in March, June, September and December. CPD applications lodged through member portals the month prior to the scheduled meeting will be considered at the next meeting.

Supporting Documentation

To ensure that CPD applications can be reviewed and approved please ensure that you provide, as a minimum, supporting documentation:

  • Documentation describing the activity.  Weblinks are acceptable.
  • Verification from your line supervisor or a certificate of attendance. These may be in the format of an uploaded email.

Supporting documentation is not required for ARMS events where registration and attendance can be confirmed by the ARMS Executive Office.

Please also note that where an individual views a recorded session, CPD is not approved as the session can not be verified.

All accredited members are asked to regularly review the status of their CPD Diaries and ensure that CPD applications are lodged within twelve (12) months of the completion of an activity.  Please see the ARMS website for further details on CPD.
