ARMS Northern Territory Chapter

What a wonderful afternoon celebrating Research Administrators Day 2025 with the NT Chapter! The event brought together our amazing research management professionals for a fun, laughter-filled celebration of their hard work and dedication.

We recognised our award winners for their outstanding contributions, and the crowd erupted in laughter during our very own Family Feud showdown – Grants vs Ethics! Let’s just say things got competitive, but all in good fun (and maybe with a little too much team spirit!).

The delicious food and drinks, kindly provided by ORI Management, made the afternoon even more special.

It was such a joy to come together, reconnect, and celebrate the people who keep research running smoothly behind the scenes. A huge thank you to all our research administrators for the passion, expertise, and good humour you bring to CDU’s research community every single day.

Together We Shine: A Moment Worth Toasting

The third pillar of Deakin University’s Research and Innovation’s guiding plan is ‘Enabling Environment’ which is the research administrators at Deakin.

To celebrate Research Administrators’ Day, Deakin’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation) hosted appreciation lunches at both the Burwood and Waurn Ponds campuses, bringing together research administration managers to celebrate the vital contributions they make to the research enterprise.

At Waurn Ponds campus, Amy Hunter (Executive Director, Research Business Development), and at Burwood campus, Jeannette Fyffe (Pro Vice-Chancellor, Researcher Development Academy) delivered warm and thoughtful speeches that acknowledged the dedication and the behind-the-scenes impact of research administrators. Their reflections highlighted the professionalism and tireless efforts of research administration managers across Deakin, whose work underpins the success of Deakin’s research endeavours.

Celebrating like pros, posing like legends: The three photos captured across both campuses reflect the spirit of connection, appreciation, and the shared pride in the work we do together.

Flinders Health and Medical Research Institute

To kick off a series of celebrations for Research Administrators’ Day 2025, the Research Development and Support team for the Flinders Health and Medical Research Institute (FHMRI) gathered over a shared morning tea.

There was a lot of laughter as we worked together to create a memories board that is now proudly displayed in the office.

It’s not often that as a team we take the time to pause together (in person and virtually) and reflect on the work we do, the impact it has on the research community and collectively celebrate our successes and achievements.

We were also surprised by a visit from the FHMRI Director in the afternoon with an always appreciated tray of cookies!

We noted a few team members absences as they were off enjoying much deserved holidays, or participating in professional development workshops, but we look forward to finding more opportunities to celebrate each other throughout the year!

Griffith University

Griffith University hosted its inaugural Research Administrator’s Day celebrations supported by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research) portfolio. The event took place simultaneously at both the Nathan and Gold Coast campuses, providing an opportunity to recognise the valuable contributions of research management professionals in advancing research within Griffith, nationally, and internationally. This important occasion also fostered connection between research management professionals while enjoying a hot beverage.

La Trobe University

Research Administrators Day 2025 for La Trobe University staff was about dedication, expertise, and the collaborative spirit that defines our Research and Industry Engagement Office staff. Across our teams- (Research Development, Grants and Transformation, Research and Industry Agreements, Research Performance, Graduate Research School, Ethics, Integrity, and Biosafety and Research Infrastructure and Industry Engagement) we came together to celebrate the vital role research administrators play in advancing La Trobe’s research strategy 2030.

This year’s celebration was marked by a deep sense of respect and inclusion, beginning with an Acknowledgement of Country that wherever you are in this place called Australia, you are on traditional Aboriginal country. When acknowledging country we’re acknowledging all that came before. The history, culture and practices and Elders. The sky, waterways, plants and animals. This set the tone for a celebration based in respect for history, culture, and the ongoing connections to our various communities that help us support innovation and discovery, through our people, and the values of inclusion and equity.

Professor Julie Andrews OAM, a descendant of the Yorta Yorta people and Academic Director (Indigenous Research) at the Gabra Biik Wurruwila Wutja Research Centre spoke about her research with the Australian Aboriginal community and Academics and how we need to ensure Indigenous research is being Indigenous lead. She urged us to help bridge any gaps in the importance of understanding this. Reminding us that community consultations are about partnerships between the Aboriginal community and the University and it can only serve to make our research the best it can be. Whether it be through applying for grants, or consulting on projects, or providing data. All touch points that our staff are involved with, throughout a researcher’s journey.

Professor Adam Bourne, Director of the Australian Research Centre in Sex, Health and Society spoke to us about the Research expertise in social research, health, and wellbeing, particularly relating to LGBTIQ+ communities. He highlighted that every aspect of his research is part of a broader process, one that builds on the foundational work of Research Administrators in La Trobe’s Research Office, whose support enables him to thrive as a researcher. We shared food and recognised the efforts we all play in the administration work we do. It was a celebration, but also an affirmation of our shared commitment to excellence, integrity, and the advancement

RMIT University

At RMIT, we marked Research Administrators’ Day with a Footy Grand Final–themed morning tea – a light-hearted way to pause, connect, and recognise the vital contributions of our research administrators.

Colleagues came together in team colours to enjoy classic footy fare, including “half-time oranges,” party pies, and other match-day favourites. The celebration was rounded out with a well-deserved treat: desk massages for staff, offering a moment of relaxation and appreciation.

The event was a chance not only to share food and laughter but also to reflect on the skill, professionalism, and dedication that research administrators bring to their work every day. Often behind the scenes, their impact is felt across every successful grant application, project milestone, and student experience.

As one colleague put it, “Research at RMIT simply wouldn’t happen without them.”

Scoops and Smiles: UQ Celebrates Research Administrators’ Day 2025

On Research Administrators’ Day, some of our team from the University of Queensland Research Office, including the NHMRC and MRFF teams, took a well-earned break to celebrate the work we do every day behind the scenes.

It was the perfect chance to step away from our desks, enjoy the sunshine, and share a few laughs over cones and cups of ice cream and coffee. The flavours were as diverse as our team, and the relaxed atmosphere made it easy to connect, reflect, and appreciate the impact we have in supporting research across the university.

Whether we are assisting with grant applications or navigating complex funding rounds, our work is fast-paced and detail-driven. Taking time to celebrate reminded us how important it is to pause, acknowledge the wins both big and small, and appreciate the people who make it all happen.

Thanks to ARMS for encouraging us to celebrate. Happy Research Administrators’ Day from all of us at UQ!

The University of Sydney Research Office

The University of Sydney Research Office had a lunch at The Rose Hotel in Chippendale for Research Administrators' Day 2025. We had a great one and a half hours discussing the great and not-so-great moments and experiences of the last year.   Those who went to the ARMS Conference in Melbourne related their experiences at the Conference.  It was recommended that all members of the Research Office at USYD should try to make the 2026 conference in Perth if it all possible, as so many positive experiences were taken away from this year’s conference.
