Research Impact SIG Networking Session - 30 Oct 2025
The ARMS Research Impact Special Interest Group (RI-SIG) hosts monthly networking sessions on the last Thursday of each month from 1–2 PM AEDT/AEST.
These sessions provide an opportunity to discuss current research impact challenges and opportunities. We offer a mix of guest speaker presentations and open, informal discussions on various topics, fostering connections and idea-sharing within our community.
In this session, we will hear from:
- Catherine McElhone, Research Impact Facilitator, University of Technology Sydney
- Dr Mat McGann, CEO and Founder of Horiz-in, Horiz-in | Map or Track Anything
They will be discussing a recently completed pilot project which assessed how public data can be used to enhance, complement, or partially replace internal reporting for UTS impact case studies. The goal was to uncover hidden value in known case studies, explore ways to reduce the reporting burden on academics, and test the feasibility of a centralised, automated infrastructure for university-wide impact tracking.
The work focused on testing the utility of public information to populate and update case study information, in line with a specified data framework, identifying opportunities for automation, and evaluating how insights from past activities can support future impact generation. Whether you’re a seasoned practitioner or just starting your journey, this session offers a valuable opportunity to engage with the latest ideas and perspectives in the region.
