Module 3.1: Higher Degree by Research Scholarships - 05 August 2025

The purpose of this module is to provide an insight into the current and evolving practices around the management of scholarships for Higher Degree by Research (HDR) candidates.
This module will provide an understanding of the basic principles, purpose and financial implications underlying HDR scholarships, the rules governing scholarships and scholarship offers, and the reporting requirements associated with scholarships.
This module also provides an understanding of common national and international scholarship schemes and the management and reporting requirements associated with scholarships.
Key learning outcomes:
After completing this module, research management professionals will be able to demonstrate familiarity with the following:
- Understanding the role of scholarships in HDR education and university research;
- Effectively managing and report domestic scholarships;
- Determining a scholarship allocation model for your university;
- Establishing industry and externally funded scholarship programs (see also the HDR International Partnerships module);
- Working with foreign agencies, including governments, that allocate fully funded scholarships;
- Establishing joint scholarships with foreign governments; and
- Accessing and promoting funded mobility programs.

It is recommended that this module be taken in conjunction with Module 3.2: Higher Degree by Research International Partnerships, Module 3.3: Higher Degree by Research Candidature Management and Module 3.4: Higher Degree by Research Admissions and Completions.
This module is part of the Foundation Level Accreditation Program, available to participants in all regions. Additionally, each module can be pursued independently for professional development.

Cancellation Policy:
Should your circumstances change, and you are unable to attend this workshop, you must contact the ARMSAccreditation@researchmanagement.org.au by no later than 10 working days prior to the commencement of the scheduled event. ARMS will refund the full registration fee minus any administrative fees.
Should you cancel less than 10 working days prior to the commencement of this workshop, no refund will be payable but instead you may wish to send a proxy.
ARMS reserve the right to cancel, postpone or re-schedule courses and events due to minimum numbers not being reached or for other unforeseen circumstances. In the event of a cancellation, ARMS will aim to advise all participants in writing five (5) days prior to the scheduled event and will refund the full registration fee including administrative charges within 30 days after notification.
