Module 2.2: Post-Award Processes - 08 September 2026 - Conference

The purpose of this module is to provide research management professionals an insight into the process of effective post-award administration, from contract negotiation through to the close of a project.

This module provides an understanding of the key role an administrator plays in in the relationship between a funding agency, the organisation and the researcher including understanding the hierarchy of compliance associated with post-award administration in the Australasian research environment.

Participants will become familiar with the common terms used in research agreements and the required steps in the initiation of a contract to ensure that the interests of the organisation, researcher, and funding agency are all met. The module also covers the usual course of contract management and the deviations acceptable to funding agencies; common funding types and the key principles that underpin these; and the common types of agreements used in research management and when these agreements are required.

Key Learning Outcomes:

On successful completion of this module, participants will have mastered the following basics:

• Understanding the key role that research management professionals plays in the relationship between a funding agency, the organisation and the researcher;
• The hierarchy of compliance associated with post-award administration in the Australasian research environment;
• Familiarisation with the common terms used in research agreements;
• The required steps in the initiation of a contract to ensure that the interests of the organisation, researcher and foundation agency are all met;
• The usual course of contract management and the deviations acceptable to funding agencies;
• Common funding types and the key principles that underpin these; and
• The common types of agreements used in research management and when these agreements are required.

This module is suitable for research management professionals who have some experience in post-award grant administration (3-6 months).

Event Emails and Pre-reading:

• Upon registration, you will receive an initial confirmation email from the conference website confirming your successful registration for this workshop.

• Once your registration has been transferred to the ARMS CRM and Moodle platform, you will receive a second email. This email will include a link to the module's Body of Knowledge (pre-reading), along with any other relevant study materials.

• Study materials will be distributed no later than seven (7) days prior to the workshop, or at the time of registration for participants registering within this timeframe. Please note that outstanding payments may delay access to registration materials and pre-reading resources.

Assessment and Accreditation Points:

• At the end of the workshop, participants will be invited to complete a non-compulsory assessment; due two (2) weeks after receiving the link from the ARMS Executive Office.

• The quiz is compulsory for participants seeking accreditation points for one of the following programs:

  • Foundation Level Accreditation Program (FLAP) 

  • Established Level Accreditation Program (ELAP)
