Presenters:
Dr Louise Dwyer - Macquarie University
Dr Louise Dwyer has a Bachelor of Science (Hons) and PhD in bioinorganic chemistry from the University of Western Australia (2010) and a Graduate Diploma of Extractive Metallurgy from Murdoch University and is a qualified classical ballet teacher.
She held a joint postdoctoral position between the University of Western Australia and Griffith University examining the subcellular distribution of gold and platinum compounds in tumour cells using novel imaging techniques, before joining the Graduate Research School at the University of Western Australia in 2012, holding positions in graduate research education development and candidature management.
Dr Dwyer joined Macquarie University Higher Degree Research Office in 2016 and is currently the Operations Director for Graduate Research with operational and strategic oversight of the University’s graduate research programs, scholarships, and external partnerships.
Dr Dwyer is an accredited research manager with the Australasian Research Management Society (ARMS) and was a member of the NSW Chapter Committee for a number of years. She is currently the Secretary of the ARMS Board, a Training Fellow in the ARMS Foundation Level program, and an active contributor to the Australian Council of Graduate Research.
Dr Maryam Correa - Chris O’Brien Lifehouse
Maryam is a passionate leader and strategist with over 12 years of experience helping teams and organisations navigate complex change, grow their capacity, and deliver meaningful results. With a background spanning medical health, not-for-profit research, and higher education, Maryam is known for her ability to lead complex change, empower teams, and deliver innovative solutions. Her career trajectory has taken her from researcher, project specialist and clinical research roles into senior leadership, where she has successfully led teams, steered strategy, and driven complex change programs.
Maryam also brings deep expertise in governance, risk, and compliance, having led initiatives like independent assurance programs, governance framework co-designs, and risk registry implementations across diverse organisations. Her leadership extends into learning and development, where she has designed and implemented training frameworks, career pathways, and global education structures across clinical and operational teams.
Currently the Business Manager of Clinical Trials at Chris O’Brien Lifehouse, Maryam brings over 26 years of experience in project management and operations, with senior leadership roles at KPMG and The George Institute for Global Health. She has previously served as an Executive Committee member for Clinical Trials: Impact & Quality (CT:IQ) and as Co-Chair of the Association of Australian Medical Research Institutes (AAMRI) Research Strategy Steering Committee. Whether it’s driving system-wide transformation, improving processes, or mentoring the next generation of leaders, Maryam is motivated by making a positive, lasting impact.
With a PhD in Health, an MBA, and multiple leadership certifications, Maryam actively contributes to executive committees and mentors the next generation of leaders, bringing a passion for driving impactful, sustainable change to every organisation she serves.
Dr Angus Crossan - Impact Innovation
Angus is passionate about supporting Australian organisations to thrive by implementing the best innovation and commercialisation practices. Beginning his career as an academic at the University of Sydney, Angus quickly realised he was most interested in how R&D efforts could be practically applied and commercialised.
With experience leading the Australian egg industry’s R&D program and driving Australia’s food innovation initiatives while working with Food Innovation Australia (FIAL), Angus excels at developing leading-edge strategies that align with business objectives. He also is highly skilled at leveraging investments, stakeholder management and encouraging best practice design-led thinking in external organisations.
Angus has also co-founded a number of start-up ventures biotechnology, agrifood, disability, and IT sectors. His expertise and ability to influence has led to his appointment to government and university economic development and innovation advisory committees. His work has been recognized through multiple awards, including the Australian Good Design Award (2022), the International Specialised Skills Institute Fellowship (2011), and the Federal Government Science and Innovation Award for Young Scientists (2007).
Dr Henry Ko - Agency for Clinical Innovation
Henry Ko is the research manager at NSW Agency for Clinical Innovation. His role includes managing research partnerships, research governance, research strategy, running the ACI Research Grant Scheme, project commissioning, as well as administering the ACI intern and visitor program. He was part of the NSW COVID Critical Intelligence Unit's Evidence Integration Group and secretariat for the Research Intelligence Group. Henry was previously the research manager at the NSW Government's State Insurance Regulatory Authority.
More broadly Henry is a healthcare technology and services researcher with experience in health technology and service innovations assessment, healthcare consumer advocacy, and policy-making. He has experience across academia, industry, and government sectors in Australia (in NSW, Victoria, and QLD, as well as with the Commonwealth Government) and Asia (in Singapore, Taiwan, Japan, and Hong Kong).
Ms Christine Anderson - University of Sydney
Christine Anderson is a seasoned research management professional with extensive expertise in research development, governance, and strategic planning. Christine holds an MBA from the Australian Institute of Management and a Graduate Certificate in Research Management and Policy from the University of Melbourne.
Her career spans 20 years in research management with significant roles at the University of Sydney, Kolling Institute, and Black Dog Institute. Currently serving as the Operations Manager of the Matilda Centre for Research in Mental Health and Substance Use, she in instrumental in developing and implementing impactful research strategies and programs. Known for her collaborative approach and exceptional stakeholder management skills, Christine is dedicated to fostering high-performance teams and driving meaningful research outcomes.
