Through the generous contribution of RMIT University, ARMS is pleased to announce the 2023 RMIT Paul Taylor Awards for Excellence in Research Management Practice. These awards honour the life of Dr Paul Taylor, an exemplary and inspiring Research Management Professional from RMIT University who sadly passed away suddenly in November 2018.
Dr Taylor was also highly regarded internationally for his thoughtful and determined leadership on the responsible conduct of research.
ABOUT THE 2023 RMIT PAUL TAYLOR AWARDS FOR EXCELLENCE IN RESEARCH MANAGEMENT PRACTICE.
- CATEGORY 1 – Research Management Excellence and
- CATEGORY 2 – Paul Taylor Award.
Full details on each category including selection criteria are provided below:
CATEGORY 1: RESEARCH MANAGEMENT EXCELLENCE
Two awards of up to AUD$1000 each may be granted under Category 1: Research Management Excellence. Recipients of this award are encouraged to use the prize money to support their attendance to the ARMS 2023 Sydney conference from 6-8 September 2023 - https://arms.eventsair.com/arms2023/
The Category 1: Research Management Excellence award recognises excellence in practice through:
- Innovation in research management** – Through the development of new ideas and the creation of novel solutions.
- Leading change – Characterised by engaging in best practice for sustainable outcomes; working collaboratively to enhance teamwork; and positively influencing others by building shared commitment to workplace and organisational objectives.
- Providing quality service – Recognised by client groups for consistently providing outstanding service that has enhanced the profession of research management.
- Working smarter – Characterised by using creative and innovative solutions that enable work to be carried out more easily, efficiently and/or productively, while not compromising the quality of outcomes.
Nominations may be made by either an individual or a team.
CATEGORY 2: PAUL TAYLOR MEDAL
One award of up to AUD$1000 may be granted under the Paul Taylor Medal (Category 2). The recipient(s) of this award is encouraged to use the prize money to support attendance to the ARMS Sydney conference from 6-8 September 2023 - https://arms.eventsair.com/arms2023/
Category 2 - Paul Taylor Medal recognises excellence in Research Integrity through:
- Education and training – Through the provision of high-quality education and support to promote responsible research.
- Leading change – Characterised by engaging in better practice for deepening research integrity culture and positively influencing others by building shared commitment to principles and responsibilities of research integrity.
- Working smarter – Characterised by quality solutions that enable work in research integrity management to be carried out more easily, efficiently and/or productively, while not compromising the quality of outcomes.
Nominations may be made by either an individual or a team.

Nominations for the 2023 round ahave been extended to 5PM AEST, Friday the 30th of June 2023.
If an eligible member has applied for and is the successful recipient of a 2023 ARMS Chapter Travel Award, they will only be eligible to receive one award of their choosing.
No appeals or late applications will be accepted.

Friday, 30th of June 2023 | Closing date for Applications – COB 5PM AEST - Applications to be submitted to the ARMS Membership Officer – ARMSMembership@researchmanagement.org.au All applications received will be acknowledged by email. |
Friday, 14th of July 2023 | ARMS Executive Office to submit applications to the Evaluation Committee for assessment. Finalisation of assessment by Evaluation Committee. |
By Friday, the 21st of July 2023 | ARMS Board to endorse the recommendations made by the Evaluation Committee (including those on the reserve list). Once all recommendations have been endorsed by the ARMS Board, successful applicants will be notified of their outcome. Unsuccessful applicants will be advised once all awardees have accepted their offer. |
Before Wednesday, 6 September 2023 | Applicants to submit ARMS Reimbursement Request Forms/invoice to obtain funding for the award. |
Thursday, 7 September 2023 | Presentation of all award recipients at the Award Ceremony at the conference Gala Dinner. |
By Friday, 27 October 2023 | Post conference article in Up In ARMS – To be produced by RMIT University |
