Wondering how to enhance your engagement and impact?

The Research Impact SIG will be hosting a special panel session focusing on how different organisations have approached the development of impact strategies and culture change. Our three speakers from the University of Wollongong, RMIT and the University of Auckland will share their stories of integrating and mobilising engagement and impact strategies before a facilitated discussion session.

Dr Faith Welch

University of Auckland

Faith has ten years’ experience working in research impact-related roles in the UK and New Zealand. She is currently the first Research Impact Manager at the University of Auckland, developing strategic initiatives designed to increase the social, environmental, cultural and economic benefits of our research.

Professor Lauren Rickards

RMIT University

Lauren Rickards is a Professor in the School of Global, Urban and Social Studies at RMIT University, where she is a co-leader of the Climate Change Transformations research programme of the Centre for Urban Research, and Director of the Urban Futures Enabling Capability Platform, which is designed to cultivate impactful interdisciplinary research. A Lead Author with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, Lauren does research on the sociocultural dimensions of climate change, including their implications for higher education. With Wendy Steele, she is author of a recent book The Sustainable Development Goals and Higher Education: A transformative agenda?

A/Professor Wendy Steele

RMIT University

Wendy Steele is an Associate Professor in the School of Global, Urban and Social Studies, and co-leader of the Critical Urban Governance research program in the Centre for Urban Research, RMIT University. Her research focuses on the politics and practices of sustainable urban development with a particular emphasis on cities in climate change, the role of higher education and the need for research impact as ethos.

Dr Olga Kokshagina

RMIT University

Olga Kokshagina is a VC Research Fellow in the Graduate School of Business and Law at the RMIT University, focussing on research in the areas of strategic management of design, open & radical innovation, and entrepreneurship. She is a member of the French Digital Council (CNNUM) and a co-author of a recently published book - Radical innovation playbook.

Ms Lia Sherwood

The University of Wollongong

Lia Sherwood, BSc(biomed), MSc(med), is the Research Development and Impact Manager at the University of Wollongong. She is responsible for coordinating all aspects of strategic research impact and engagement reporting, analysis and training across the university; EI assessment coordination; and embedding the UN Sustainable Development Goals in the university’s research activities and reporting. Lia has worked in a variety of research roles and settings for over 25 years. She is passionate about the pursuit and mobilisation of knowledge to benefit people and the planet, now and into the future.


CPD: Accredited members (ARMAs and ARMFs) will automatically accrue 1 CPD hour per attended session.

Should your circumstances change, and you are unable to attend this workshop, you must contact the arms.adminofficer@flinders.edu.au by no later than 10 working days prior to the commencement of the scheduled event. ARMS will refund the full registration fee minus any administrative fees.

Should you cancel less than 10 working days prior to the commencement of this workshop, no refund will be payable but instead you may wish to send a proxy.

ARMS reserve the right to cancel, postpone or re-schedule courses and events due to minimum numbers not being reached or for other unforeseen circumstances.  In the event of a cancellation, ARMS will aim to advise all participants in writing five (5) days prior to the scheduled event and will refund the full registration fee including administrative charges within 30 days after notification.
