The Directors of Higher Degree Research group is a professional network for Directors and Managers of Graduate Research Centres and Schools or those responsible for the management of research degrees in their university.

The SIG recognises the importance of research degrees in the research space and the requirement for Directors and Managers to be aware of the impact of national research priorities and legislation on the strategies and administration of research degrees in their universities.

Membership consists of one representative from each Australasian university and provides an opportunity to discuss current issues relating to research degrees, benchmark activities and establish strategies for addressing these issues. The group meets every year at the ARMS Conference and benchmarking sessions are organised between conferences providing an opportunity for members to come together more regularly.

Past benchmarking sessions have covered important issues such as the UN and Australian Autonomous Sanctions, the impact of the streamlined visa initiative, China Scholarship Council opportunities and strategies for building research capacity and quality, and Joint PhDs.
