Our speakers will share the experiences that brought them to the conference, the sessions and conversations that left the biggest impression on them, and their advice for making the most of future ARMS Conference opportunities. Whether you're an experienced research management professional, new to the sector, or considering applying for a future Chapter Award, this session offers a unique opportunity to learn from your peers, connect with colleagues across institutions, and spark new ideas for your own professional development.

Cost: This event is free for ARMS members. Please log into your member portal to receive the 100% ARMS member discount. Each Member is required to register via their own account. Panelists:

Dr Marc Bonaventura
La Trobe University

Marc is currently a Senior Grants Advisor at La Trobe University, where his work involves identifying opportunities, developing proposals, and managing submissions for competitive Category 1 research grant schemes, especially those funded by the Australian Research Council. He has worked in research management for four years, supporting Category 1-4 research grant proposals across the full grant lifecycle, both pre-award and post-award. Prior to working in research management, Marc obtained a PhD in Classics, where he studied the Trojan War narratives attributed to Dares Phrygius and Dictys Cretensis.

Dr Ankita Gagrani
Federation University

Dr. Ankita Gagrani is a Senior Coordinator in Research Integrity and Researcher Development at Federation University Australia. She holds a PhD in Engineering from the Australian National University and has more than six years of experience in research management, including research funding, HDR administration, research integrity, and researcher development. Her work focuses on promoting responsible research practices and supporting researchers through tailored development initiatives that strengthen research excellence and integrity.

Ms Carolyn Ramsey
Flinders University

Carolyn Ramsey is the Senior Hub Manager at Flinders University’s Factory of the Future. She brings extensive experience in research management having worked across 5 research centres and institutes in three universities. This work has spanned the health, medical devices, advanced technologies and defence sectors, helping researchers and partners turn ideas into funded projects and real outcomes. Carolyn is skilled at bringing people together, making complex work easier to navigate, and supporting teams to stay focused and aligned. She is especially strong in the “third space” of research management, where success comes from asking the right questions, building trust and helping great research happen.

Dr Marina Župan
Flinders University
SA Chapter Co-convenor

Marina is a Senior Research Development Officer in the Research Development (Health) team at Flinders University, and Co-Convenor of the ARMS SA Chapter. Marina’s career in research management started in late 2022 when she joined Flinders University after completing her PhD at the Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity. Initially supporting clinician researchers within Flinders’ Health & Medical Research Institute, she later stepped into a Research Development Officer role in 2023. Marina now works with researchers across Flinders University to target and develop competitive funding applications for NHMRC & MRFF, and leads researcher development initiatives such as the NHMRC Investigator Grant Bootcamp.

Dr Li (Helly) He
Victoria University
VIC Chapter Co-convenor

Helly works in the Research Funding and Development team at Victoria University, where she supports grant applications, tenders and research proposals, as well as the development of industry partnerships and commercialisation-focused projects. She holds a PhD in Sustainable Tourism and is also a Research Associate with VU’s Institute for Sustainable Industries and Liveable Cities. Helly is Co-Convenor of the ARMS Victoria Chapter Committee.
