Please join the RISE SIG August meeting to hear from national leaders on Open Access (OA) and Persistent Identifies (PIDs). Clare Nulley-Valdes from the Australian Research Council will provide an overview of OA policy, the recent changes and the drivers for these, and the alignment with the national PIDs strategy. Lyle Winton and Siobhann McCafferty from the Australian Research Data Commons will talk about the implementation of the 2026 Action Plan of the PIDs strategy, the national service, and activities relating to facilities and instruments

Clare Nulley-Valdes - Australian Research Council

Clare Nulley-Valdes is an Assistant Director at the Australian Research Council (ARC), where she leads and contributes to policy initiatives relating to persistent identifiers (PIDs), research metadata, and open access. She led the development of the ARC 2026 Open Access Policy update and played a key role in developing the ARC’s PID Action Plan. If she gets a quiet moment, she can usually be found curled up on the sofa with a good book.

Lyle Winton - Australian Research Data Commons

Lyle Winton is ARDC's Program Manager for the National Persistent Identifier (PID) Strategy. He has over 20 years of experience in research infrastructure having worked on universities, state, national, and international initiatives. Lyle is passionate about the use of co-design principles and techniques in program engagement, design and delivery.

Siobhann McCafferty - Australian Research Data Commons

Siobhann McCafferty (She/her) is the Product Manager for Identifier Services at the ARDC. She has a particular interest in Persistant Identifiers for instruments and in the contribution to equity that persistent identifiers can make across the research landscape. While not at work she is mostly upside down and/or covered in cats.
