Chapter Event - online

Developing strong research collaborations internationally can have significant benefits for research institutions, enabling researchers to connect to global networks and tackle research questions that can’t easily be addressed alone. However, recent changes in the international and national research landscape have made it more critical than ever before to be able to articulate and clearly demonstrate the value brought by international research collaborations.

In this context, the Office of Global and Research Engagement at the University of Sydney is conducting a project to capture the benefits delivered by international research collaboration programs that we have supported in collaboration with colleagues at our university’s global partner universities.  We want to capture a wide range of potential benefits and are using a suite of measures in addition to case studies to enable us to best demonstrate the value brought by this research. By looking at the quality of the outputs generated, the ability of the projects to leverage further funding and the impact they were able to deliver more broadly, we are building a narrative to demonstrate the value of international collaboration that will be useful for advocating for international research collaboration in an increasingly challenging environment. This presentation will outline the process we have followed to identify and examine this information and our key learnings from this process.
