ARMS Tasmania Chapter PD Opportunity - Impacts of unsuccessful research funding on Australian research

12:00pm Thursday, 7 March 2024
1:00pm Thursday, 7 March 2024
Chapter Event - online

Research funding plays a significant role in achieving innovative development in health, education, and society. Applications for research funding are time consuming and require knowledgeable and resilient researchers, and institutional resources. While researchers with successful applications are being celebrated, there is a paucity of studies on the impacts of unsuccessful research funding applications on researchers.

A systematic review of primary studies and grey literature using the JBI scoping review framework on the impacts of unsuccessful research funding outcomes on Australian researchers was carried out. Two key themes were obtained from the study namely factors influencing research funding outcomes and impacts of unsuccessful funding application while the sub-themes are research projects and researchers and six sub-themes are effect on researcher, funding body, institutions and research office support and the government were obtained in the thematic analysis. There is a need to further investigate how to better support the wellbeing and productivity of Australian researchers.
